3rd Blogaversary Series Day 5
As a reminder because of their personal content being devoted to covers and their participation in Moving Voices, Hongjoong and Jongho have way more covers than the other members. Therefore, I will be splitting the posts into one each for Hongjoong and Jongho and then one for the remaining members. I am teetering on the edge between having 4 biases and 4 wreckers or being OT8, so the way I have chosen to divide my posts in no way is to show favoritism to any particular member, it is purely logistical when considering the amount of content each member has released. As we are going in Ateez fan chant order, today we will be focusing on Seonghwa, Yungho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, and Wooyoung; and then tomorrow we will end with Jongho.
Seonghwa
I may be wrong about this, but in my imagination, Seonghwa was the instigator of Ateez's Special Clips. I for sure remember him releasing Special Clip birthday songs before the rest of the members. I remember him dropping At My Worst and the subsequent Special Clips on his birthday and the other members joined in during, I think, the Angel Baby year. All that to say, not only do I appreciate Seonghwa's liquid vocals in his covers, but I am also grateful for him starting the members' birthday cover trend.

Yunho
I can't seem to figure out Yunho. He is one of Ateez's main dancers, but doesn't release a lot of dance content. He is one of their more featured vocalists (he starts a lot of the Ateez songs), but doesn't release a lot of singing content. I like to think he spends his extra work time on developing his acting skills since his personal content was Anewz and he was the second male lead of Imitation. What I can say is that he has a beautiful voice.
His birthday Special Clip was a Japanese song, and any Atiny who has been around while Yunho has been in Japan can probably understand why he chose to cover a Japanese song. There is just something that happens to Yunho while he is in Japan. I can't even explain it. A Japanese fan said this song has special significance because in their country it is aimed at stopping people who intend to commit suicide.

The three Ateez members of Imitation's group, Sparkling, have since dubbed themselves the Tropical Boys. They performed a shortened version of their original song during the Atiny's Voyage: Fan Meeting and also this cover song. I am adding it into Yunho's section because he has the least amount of covers between the three members.

Yeosang
I'm not going to lie. I didn't fully appreciate the range of Yeosang's vocal abilities until he dropped his first Special Clip cover. I have always loved how deep and rich his vocals were but I never expected him to have such power in his higher register. I was truly shocked in such a good way.
Yeosang jumped on the birthday Special Clip bandwagon and took it over when he dropped a full mini album as part of his birthday merch. Some nicetiny uploaded the songs for those of us who were unable to purchase the merch and now we get SO MUCH Yeosang!

Most Atiny know that Yeosang was a host of The Show from March of 2021 through March of 2024. To introduce his new fellow hosts during his last hosting cycle, they performed a cover of a popular EXO-CBX song. I don't know if anyone else was distracted by Yeosang's right sleeve going back and forth between rolled up and rolled down but if you weren't sorry because I bet now you will be. 🫣

San
How do I even start with this Special Clip? Remember how San dropped this only five months before his Warriors dance cover so some of the reactors who found him through Warriors were doing double features with Breathe/Sign (apparently it goes by both names)? To go from Warriors to Breathe/Sigh in one sitting was a rollercoaster of emotions, let me tell you. It was also so nice to see him just sit and sing to us. San is SUCH an amazing performer that sometimes people forget he started as the lead vocalist and his covers remind them of his AMAZING singing prowess. So San, we need more please and thank you.

In November of 2023 San and Jongho appeared on EunChae's Star Diary as part of the Crazy Form promotions. If you haven't see their appearance yet, I have linked it for you HERE. It starts off a little awkward because they are all introverts, but then once they get comfortable, it is a really good interview. While on the show, they answered some Atiny questions and one was a request to do a duet saying that it is a worldwide loss that they haven't done one yet. They promised to do one and four months later we got this gift.

San was the third Ateez member invited to Leemujin's Service and WOW he used his time WISELY. Every cover was a different genre and showed a different flavor of San's vocal range. I think a literally yelled the word,"tone" at my iPad some point during the Moondance cover and that was after I had been blown away by his rendition of The Fool.

Mingi
It seems to me that Mingi is less of a covers guy and more of a "write an original song" kind of guy. He has not done any solo covers, that I know of, but he has done two duets with Hongjoong. Mingi, you do you. We are totally here for anything you want to show us.

Wooyoung
Wooyoung's voice is so light and airy and just floats above you like fairy dust. The choices he makes when picking songs to cover seem so opposite of his loud personality but when you consider the things he shared in Fill in the Blank, soothing cover song choices suddenly fits. In Bunhongjoong's Complete Guide to Ateez 2024, when she uses Wooyoung's cover of 12:45 and calls it his healing section, I very much believe it.
